Factors Affecting Land Fragmentation and Willingness to Exchange Land Among Rice Farmers in Gombe and Borno States: The Dadin-Kowa Irrigation Scheme Experience, Nigeria

The purpose of this study was to examine the factors affecting land fragmentation and willingness exchange farmland in Gombe Bornu states, Nigeria. statistical population were participating farmers Dadin-Kowa Irrigation Scheme Borno state. Using a multi-stage sampling technique Taro Yamane formula, 284 rice selected data collected through structured questionnaire. result Tobit regression model shows that value F-Statistics significant at one% level probability. Furthermore, Pseudo R square (R2) 0.34, indicating relationship 34% influencing fragmentation. analysis indicated coefficient distance farm homestead (0.041) number holdings positively while coefficients size (-0.047) income (-0.054) negatively results logit revealed LR chi2 1% This indicates goodness fit joint significance all variables used it concludes there are greatly influence DKIS irrigation scheme, their farmlands. Relatively, age (0.03), (0.00), (1.44), soil fertility (2.03), price (0.57), market (0.50) farmers’ farmland. On other hand, gender (-1.84), duration rent (-0.89) main road found land. concluded operating on fragmented identified area. also willing Hence recommends for effective management services, is need capacity building training sensitization programs educate importance working less using every available incentive tools. Governments should provide livelihood security economic compensation who farmlands under scheme.
